Gmail Improves User Experience with Redesigned Summary Cards

Google is set to enhance the Gmail experience for Android and iOS users with the introduction of redesigned summary cards, offering a more glanceable and actionable interface. The tech giant has long provided summary cards within emails that highlight essential information such as orders, receipts, package tracking, and flight details. Now, these cards are getting a significant makeover that makes them richer and more informative.

The updated summary card format is categorized into four distinct sections: Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel. Each category has been designed to provide users with dynamic, real-time updates that help keep important information front and center. For instance, the Purchases card will now include images of items bought, alongside package tracking details displayed with a convenient progress bar, order, and tracking number. With just a tap, users can click on “Track package” for live updates or “View order” to be redirected to the merchant’s website.

The Events card enhances organization by prominently displaying the name, date, and location of upcoming events, complete with a link to the user’s Google Calendar. It will also show specific details like section and seat information. Additionally, users can easily invite others, view tickets, and obtain directions through a carousel of buttons.

Bills will no longer be a source of confusion, as the new cards will prominently showcase the balance, due date, and minimum amount due. A “Remind me” button allows users to quickly create reminders in Google Tasks, while a “View bill” shortcut simplifies access to more detailed information.

The Travel summary card will feature graphics displaying flight details, including departure and arrival times, and confirmation numbers. Users can easily manage their bookings and check in directly from the card, streamlining the travel experience.

A standout aspect of this update is the introduction of the “Happening soon” section. This feature will highlight relevant cards above the inbox, making it easier to track time-sensitive information at a glance. For example, when a package is set to arrive within two days, the “Happening soon” section will display a summary card detailing its arrival.

As of today, the updated summary cards for purchases are rolling out, with additional categories to be launched in the coming months. This upgrade aims to improve the way users interact with their emails, making essential information readily available and easily digestible.
