Sony’s PlayStation 5 has surpassed 61 million units sold, yet hardware sales have plummeted by 32% year-on-year. In its latest financial report, Sony revealed that only 2.4 million PS5 consoles were sold this quarter, down from 3.3 million a year ago and 4.5 million in the previous quarter.
While hardware sales decline, Sony’s software and network services revenue have surged. The company reported a 12% increase in game revenue, contributing to a 33% boost in profit. This growth is attributed to an 18% rise in software revenue and a 25% increase in Network Services, mainly from PS Plus subscriptions.
Monthly active users on the PlayStation Network have reached 116 million, up from 108 million last year, though down from 118 million last quarter. Notable PS5 releases, such as “Stellar Blade” and expansions for “Destiny 2,” have driven software sales, even as the number of units sold shows a decline.
